## Biography

Oswaldo Massaini was a Brazilian film producer and distributor. He began working in production in the early 1950s and founded the company Cinedistri, which became a major producer and distributor of Brazilian films.

Massaini produced more than sixty films across several decades. His credits include *The Given Word* (1962, also known as *O Pagador de Promessas*), co-produced with Anselmo Duarte; the film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Other productions encompass *Lampião, King of the Badlands* (1964), *Independência ou Morte* (1972) and *O Caçador de Esmeraldas* (1979).

He was the father of film producers Aníbal Massaini Neto and Oswaldo Massaini Filho.
