## Biography

Otho Lovering was an American film editor. Born in Philadelphia in 1892, he began his career at Vitagraph Studios as a film printing foreman and became an editor in the 1920s. He later worked for Paramount Pictures and directed several low-budget westerns in the mid-1930s.

Lovering edited John Ford's *Stagecoach* (1939) with Dorothy Spencer; the pair were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. He collaborated again with Ford from the early 1960s, editing *The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance* (1962), *Cheyenne Autumn* (1964), *Shenandoah* (1965) and *7 Women* (1966). He had around eighty editing credits on feature films and television programmes.
