## Biography

Otto Heller (also credited as Ota Heller) was a Czech cinematographer who worked primarily in the United Kingdom. Born in Prague, he began his career as a projectionist before serving as a military cameraman during the First World War. He worked in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s and later across Europe before settling in Britain in 1940; he became a British citizen in 1945.

Heller photographed more than 200 films. His credits include *The Queen of Spades* (1949), *The Ladykillers* (1955), *Richard III* (1955), *Peeping Tom* (1960), *Victim* (1961), *The Ipcress File* (1965) and *Alfie* (1966). He won the BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for *The Ipcress File* and received a nomination for *Alfie*.
