Patrick McCabe is an Irish writer. Born on 27 March 1955 in Clones, County Monaghan, he trained as a teacher at St Patrick's College, Dublin, and worked in that profession before becoming a full-time author.

His novels include *The Butcher Boy* (1992), shortlisted for the Booker Prize and adapted into a 1997 film directed by Neil Jordan for which McCabe received a screenplay credit, and *Breakfast on Pluto* (1998), also shortlisted for the Booker Prize and filmed by Jordan in 2005. He has written further novels, short stories, plays and radio dramas.
