She has worked as a freelance editor since 1980, having begun in film and dubbing productions in the late 1970s. Rommel has edited numerous German and international features. She has collaborated repeatedly with directors Caroline Link (from *Beyond Silence* in 1996 onwards) and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (including *The Lives of Others* in 2006, *The Tourist* in 2010 and *Never Look Away* in 2018).
