Patrick Ness is an American-British author and screenwriter. Born on 17 October 1971 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, he moved to London and holds dual citizenship. He studied at the University of Southern California.

Ness is known for his young adult novels, including the *Chaos Walking* trilogy (2008–2010) and *A Monster Calls* (2011). He wrote the screenplay for the 2016 film adaptation of *A Monster Calls* and created and wrote the *Doctor Who* spin-off series *Class* (2016). He co-wrote the screenplay for the 2021 film *Chaos Walking*.

Ness won the Carnegie Medal in 2011 for *Monsters of Men* and in 2012 for *A Monster Calls*.
