Paul Butler (12 March 1942 – 12 January 2010) was an American actor. Born in Pennsylvania, he appeared in supporting roles in numerous films and television series. His credits include the Policeman in *Glengarry Glen Ross* (1992), Charlie Phillips in *The Insider* (1999), a Detective in *Before the Devil Knows You're Dead* (2007), George Johnson in *Reign Over Me* (2007) and Captain Hargate in *The Rookie* (1990).

Butler had an extensive stage career, creating roles in Broadway productions including *A Few Good Men* and appearing in *The Piano Lesson* and *Jitney*. He received Drama Desk Awards for ensemble performances in *Balm in Gilead* (1985) and *Jitney* (2000), and an Obie Award for the latter. On television he was a series regular as Detective Walter Clemmons in *Crime Story* (1986–1988) and guest-starred in series such as *Law & Order* and *Third Watch*.
