## Biography

Paul Dehn was a British screenwriter, playwright and critic. Born in Manchester in 1912, he was educated at Shrewsbury School and Brasenose College, Oxford. He began his career as a film reviewer for London newspapers in 1936 and served as a Political Warfare officer with the Special Operations Executive during the Second World War, including time at Camp X in Canada.

Dehn received an Academy Award for Best Story for *Seven Days to Noon* (1950) and a BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay for *Orders to Kill* (1958). His screenwriting credits include *Goldfinger* (1964), *The Spy Who Came in from the Cold* (1965), *The Deadly Affair* (1967), several *Planet of the Apes* films (1970–1973) and *Murder on the Orient Express* (1974). He also wrote lyrics for *Moulin Rouge* (1952) and librettos for operas.

He died in Chelsea, London, in 1976.
