## Biography

Paul Gégauff (1922–1983) was a French screenwriter, adapter and dialogue writer. He began writing fiction in the 1950s and co-founded the Ciné-Club du Quartier Latin. His first credited feature screenplay was for *Les Cousins* (1959).

Gégauff collaborated extensively with Claude Chabrol, contributing to fourteen of the director’s films. His other notable screenplays include *À double tour* (1959), *Purple Noon* (1960, for which he shared an Edgar Award), *Les Bonnes Femmes* (1960), *Sign of the Lion* (1962), *Les Biches* (1968) and *This Man Must Die* (1969). He also wrote for directors including René Clément, Éric Rohmer and Barbet Schroeder.
