## Biography

Paul Holzki was a German cinematographer. He trained as a photographer before entering the film industry around 1913 as a camera operator. His career was interrupted by service in the First World War from 1916 to 1918, after which he worked as a chief cameraman on numerous silent feature films, often in collaboration with director Friedrich Zelnik.

In the late 1920s Holzki contributed to early German sound films, including the experimental documentary *Melodie der Welt* (1929). He later focused on documentaries and was one of the cinematographers on Leni Riefenstahl's *Olympia* (1938), the official film of the 1936 Berlin Olympics, released in two parts as *Festival of the Nations* and *Festival of Beauty*.
