## Biography

Paul Kemp (1896–1953) was a German stage and film actor. He began his career on stage in Düsseldorf and Hamburg after training with Louise Dumont, and achieved success in Berlin productions including the stage adaptation of Vicki Baum’s *Menschen im Hotel*. He made his film debut in 1930 and appeared in numerous German and Austrian films over the following two decades.

Kemp was known for character roles as a comedian, often playing eccentric or melancholic supporting figures. His credits include the pickpocket in Fritz Lang’s *M* (1931) and a gang member in G. W. Pabst’s *The Threepenny Opera* (1931). He also played dual roles in *Amphitryon* (1935) and appeared in *Boccaccio* (1936) and *Charley’s Tante* (1934). Kemp continued working in film until shortly before his death.
