Paul Merton is an English comedian, actor, writer and presenter. Born Paul James Martin on 9 July 1957 in Parsons Green, London, he began performing in the 1980s.

He appeared as the Barman in the series *One Foot in the Grave* (1990) and as a peasant in *The Young Ones* (1982). Merton is known for regular appearances on *Whose Line Is It Anyway?* (1988–1993), as a team captain on *Have I Got News for You* (1990–) and as host of *Room 101*.
