## Biography

Paul Osborn (1901–1988) was an American playwright and screenwriter. Born in Evansville, Indiana, he grew up in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan. He made his Broadway debut in 1928 and went on to write original plays including *The Vinegar Tree* and *Morning's at Seven*, as well as adaptations such as *On Borrowed Time*.

Osborn wrote screenplays for numerous films, including *Madame Curie* (1943), *The Yearling* (1946), *Portrait of Jennie* (1948), *East of Eden* (1955), *Sayonara* (1957), *South Pacific* (1958) and *Wild River* (1960). He received Academy Award nominations for *Sayonara* and *East of Eden*, and a Tony Award for the 1980 Broadway revival of *Morning's at Seven*.
