Penny Johnson Jerald is an American actress. She was born on 14 March 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland, and trained at the Juilliard School.

Her early television work included a recurring role as Vivian Conway in *The Paper Chase* (1984–1986). She played Beverly Barnes on the HBO series *The Larry Sanders Show* (1992–1998). Other notable roles include Kasidy Yates in *Star Trek: Deep Space Nine* (1995–1999), Sherry Palmer in *24* (2001–2004), Victoria Gates in *Castle* (2009–2016) and Dr Claire Finn in *The Orville* (2017–2022). She voiced Sarafina in the 2019 film *The Lion King*.

Jerald received CableACE and NAACP Image Award nominations for her work on *The Larry Sanders Show*. With her husband Gralin Jerald she founded the Outreach Christian Theater Company in 1994.
