Born Perry Firestone King on 30 April 1948 in Alliance, Ohio, he trained at Yale University, the Juilliard School and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. King made his film debut in *Slaughterhouse-Five* (1972). He is known for roles in *Mandingo* (1975), *Class of 1984* (1982) and as President Blake in *The Day After Tomorrow* (2004). On television he played Cody Allen in the series *Riptide* (1984–1986) and appeared in guest roles including *The Mentalist*, *Will & Grace* and *Cold Case*. He received a Golden Globe nomination for the television film *The Hasty Heart* (1984).
