## Biography

Pery Ribeiro (born Peri Oliveira Martins) was a Brazilian singer, composer and actor. He began performing as a child, appearing in the incomplete Orson Welles film *It's All True* in 1942 and in the 1944 musical comedy *Berlim na Batucada* (credited as Peri Martins).

Ribeiro's singing career began in 1959 after working as a camera operator for TV Tupi. He became known for bossa nova, MPB and jazz recordings, including the first commercial version of 'Garota de Ipanema' in 1961, and released numerous albums. He died in Rio de Janeiro on 24 February 2012.
