Pete Smith (also credited as Peter Smith) was a New Zealand actor. He made his screen debut as Api in the 1985 science fiction film *The Quiet Earth*, for which he won a GOFTA award for best supporting actor. His other notable film roles include Hone in *The Piano* (1993) and Dooley in *Once Were Warriors* (1994).

Smith appeared in further New Zealand productions such as *What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?* (1999), *Rapa Nui* (1994) and *The Legend of Johnny Lingo* (2002), as well as playing a featured orc in *The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King* (2003). He also worked in television, including appearances in *Shortland Street* (1999) and *The Market* (2005), the latter earning him a Screen Award for best supporting actor performance. He won a further best supporting actor award for his role in *Flight of the Albatross* (1995).

Smith was born on 7 August 1958 in Kaitaia and died there on 29 January 2022.
