> Peter Andrikidis's preference for understated acting gives us a reason to follow his varied television work. *Farscape* is a rewarding place to begin, provided we allow for early melodrama and give its relationships time to develop.

In *Farscape* (1999), the strange creatures attract attention, but the difficult company earns our patience. We grew fond of the series because its increasingly involved relationships made the early melodrama worth sitting through. Andrikidis served as a set-up director and directed multiple episodes; that gives him a place in its achievement, not ownership of everything we like about it. The effects have aged, and the programme takes time to settle, but the people keep it worth following.

The important turn in his television work is *Wildside* (1997). He has described it as the drama where he finally achieved the understated, improvised performances he had long pursued. He then directed the whole comedy-drama *Grass Roots* (2000), all three seasons of *East West 101* (2007), and several episodes of the first season of *Underbelly* (2008). ## Biography

Peter Andrikidis is an Australian film and television director and producer. He graduated from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School in Film Direction in 1981. After graduation he joined Crawford Productions, working on *The Flying Doctors*, and later directed and produced on the ABC medical drama *G.P.*, for which he received his first AFI Award.

Andrikidis has directed episodes of *Farscape* (1999), *BeastMaster* (1999), *Wildside*, *Grass Roots*, *East West 101*, the first season of *Underbelly* (2008), *Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries* (2012), *Harrow* (2018) and *Reckoning* (2019). His feature films include *Wog Boy 2: Kings of Mykonos* (2010) and *Alex & Eve* (2015). He was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in 2001 for services to Australian film production.
