## Biography

Peter Bayliss was an English character actor. He was born on 27 June 1922 in Kingston upon Thames and trained at the Italia Conti Stage School and with the John Gielgud Company. He appeared in more than 100 stage productions as well as in films, television and radio.

His film roles include Commissar Benz in *From Russia with Love* (1963) and Lord Alex Grant in *Darling* (1965). On television he appeared in series such as *The Avengers* (as Professor Dodge), *Please Sir!* (as Mr Dunstable) and *Midsomer Murders*, and in productions including *Merlin* (1998) and *Arabian Nights* (2000). He also worked extensively in radio, particularly in Jacobean adaptations.

Bayliss died on 29 July 2002 in London.
