## Biography

Peter Capell was a German actor. Born in Berlin in 1912, he trained at the Reinhardt schools and began his career on the stage there before emigrating to the United States in 1933. He worked in American theatre, radio and early television, returning to Germany in 1955.

Capell appeared in numerous films and television productions. He provided the narration for the opening sequence of Stanley Kubrick's *Paths of Glory* (1957) and played the Chief Judge of the Court-Martial in the same film. Other credits include *One, Two, Three* (1961), *Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory* (1971) as the Tinker, *Sorcerer* (1977) and *The Little Drummer Girl* (1984). His final screen role was in the 1985 television film *Mamas Geburtstag*.

Capell died in Munich in 1986.
