## Biography

Peter Bryan George (26 March 1924 – 1 June 1966) was a Welsh author and screenwriter. Born in Treorchy, Rhondda, he served as a flight lieutenant and navigator in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, later rejoining as a fighter controller before retiring in 1961. He published crime and thriller novels from the early 1950s, often under pseudonyms including Peter Bryant.

His 1958 novel *Red Alert*, published in the UK as *Two Hours to Doom* under the name Peter Bryant, provided the basis for Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 film *Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb*. George received a co-writing credit on the screenplay with Kubrick and Terry Southern, and shared a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also wrote the official novelisation of the film, published in 1963.
