Peter Hyams is an American film director, screenwriter and cinematographer. He was born on 26 July 1943 in New York City.

Hyams directed and wrote the conspiracy thriller *Capricorn One* (1977). His other films as director include *Outland* (1981), the science-fiction sequel *2010* (1984), *Timecop* (1994), *Sudden Death* (1995), *The Relic* (1997) and *End of Days* (1999). He has also worked as a cinematographer, including on films directed by his son John Hyams.

In 2016 Hyams appeared as himself in the documentary *O.J.: Made in America*, reflecting on his former friendship with O.J. Simpson.
