## Biography

Peter Ling was an English screenwriter, radio writer and novelist. Born in Thornton Heath, Croydon, he began writing for radio and television in the 1950s, scripting children's programmes including Whirligig before moving into adult drama.

With Hazel Adair he co-created the BBC soap Compact (1962–1965) and the long-running ITV serial Crossroads (1964–1988). He also wrote for Dixon of Dock Green, Sexton Blake and Champion House, which he co-created with Adair. Ling contributed episodes to The Avengers (1961–1963) and the Doctor Who serial The Mind Robber (1968), which he later novelised.

He was married to the actress and writer Sheilah Ward from 1954 until her death in 1997. Ling died in Hastings, East Sussex, in 2006.
