## Biography

Peter S. Fischer was an American television writer and producer. He wrote episodes for *Columbo* from 1974, serving as a story editor and executive story consultant, and contributed to series including *Kojak*, *Baretta*, *Ellery Queen* and *McMillan & Wife*. Some of his *Columbo* work was credited under the pseudonym Lawrence Vail.

With Richard Levinson and William Link, he co-created *Murder, She Wrote* (1984), serving as executive producer for its first seven seasons and writing or co-writing dozens of episodes. He also created *The Eddie Capra Mysteries* and *Blacke's Magic*.

After retiring from television in the 1990s, Fischer wrote more than twenty novels, primarily murder mysteries set in postwar Hollywood.
