## Biography

Peter Tanner was a British film editor whose career spanned more than sixty years. He began in the 1930s as a tea boy at Twentieth Century-Fox's Wembley Studios, moved into the cutting rooms and received training in Hollywood. During the Second World War he edited documentaries for the Ministry of Information and worked on footage of liberated concentration camps.

Tanner joined Ealing Studios after the war, editing Scott of the Antarctic (1948), Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), The Blue Lamp (1950) and The Cruel Sea (1953). He remained at Ealing for a decade before freelancing on features and television, including episodes of The Avengers. Later credits include A Christmas Carol (1984), Hamburger Hill (1987), Without a Clue (1988) and Robin Hood (1991). His final film was Something to Believe In (1998). He was born in Tilford, Surrey, and died in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire.
