## Biography

Pip Baker (born Ernest Alexander Baker) was an English television and film writer, best known for his work as half of the husband-and-wife team Pip and Jane Baker. He contributed scripts to the BBC science-fiction series *Doctor Who* (1963) in the 1980s, including *The Mark of the Rani* (1985), parts of *The Trial of a Time Lord* (1986, also known as *Terror of the Vervoids* and *The Ultimate Foe*), and *Time and the Rani* (1987). The pair also wrote novelisations of these stories and the audio drama *The Rani Reaps the Whirlwind* (2000).

Earlier in their career, the Bakers wrote episodes of series including *The Pursuers* (1961–62) and *Space: 1999* (1975), as well as films such as *Night of the Big Heat* (1967) and *Captain Nemo and the Underwater City* (1969). In the 1990s they created and wrote the CBBC children's series *Watt on Earth* (1991–92). Baker died on 14 April 2020.
