## Biography

Philip Friend (20 February 1915 – 1 September 1987) was a British film and television actor. Born in Horsham, Sussex, he began his career on stage in 1935 and appeared on Broadway in *French Without Tears* (1937–38).

Friend's screen roles included Torps in Noël Coward and David Lean's *In Which We Serve* (1942). He later worked in Hollywood and British productions such as *Enchantment* (1948), *Buccaneer's Girl* (1950), *Thunder on the Hill* (1951) and *The Son of Robin Hood* (1958), as well as television series including *The Errol Flynn Theatre* and *The Third Man*.

He was married to the actress Eileen Erskine.
