## Biography

Philip Levene (9 June 1926 – 25 March 1973) was an English television writer, actor and producer. He trained as an actor at the Webber Douglas School of Dramatic Art and appeared in a small role in the West End production of *Reluctant Heroes* from 1950 to 1954. Chronic ill health led him to begin writing radio plays in 1956.

Levene wrote nineteen episodes of the television series *The Avengers* (1961) from 1965 onwards and served as script consultant for twelve episodes in 1968–69. He created the series *Sanctuary* (1967–68) and co-created *The First Lady* (1968–69). His other credits include contributions to *The Invisible Man*, *The Flying Doctor*, the film *The Firechasers* (1971) and the posthumously released *Deadly Strangers* (1975). He received a Writers' Guild Award for his work on *The Avengers*.
