## Biography

Philip M. Jefferies (also credited as Phillip M. Jefferies or Phil Jefferies) was an American art director and production designer. He worked in the film industry from the mid-1950s until the mid-1980s, beginning in art department roles before advancing to art direction and production design on major studio productions.

Jefferies received an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction for *Tom Sawyer* (1973). He is credited as production designer on *Grease* (1978), *An Officer and a Gentleman* (1982), *Damien: Omen II* (1978), *The Island of Dr. Moreau* (1977), *The Cowboys* (1972) and *Caveman* (1981), and as art director on *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid* (1969) and *The Manchurian Candidate* (1962). His brother, Walter M. "Matt" Jefferies, also worked in film and television design.
