Philip Merivale was an English actor and screenwriter. Born on 2 November 1886 in Rehutia, Manickpur, India, he had a substantial stage career, performing on Broadway between 1910 and 1944 and in London's West End.

He appeared in around twenty films from the silent era onwards. Among his screen credits are *Mr. & Mrs. Smith* (1941), *This Land Is Mine* (1943) and *The Stranger* (1946), in which he played Judge Adam Longstreet. He was married to the actresses Viva Birkett and Gladys Cooper.
