Philip Reed is an American writer for television, stage and print. He began his career as a reporter for the City News Bureau of Chicago and later worked for newspapers in Denver before moving to Los Angeles, where he wrote theatre reviews and had plays produced, including *True Blues* (1984) and *Nightside* (1987).

Reed wrote an episode of the series *Miami Vice* (1984), co-written with Joel Surnow, and contributed to *Beauty and the Beast* and the series *Probe* (1988). He has also published novels, including the mystery *Bird Dog* (1997), nominated for an Edgar Award, and non-fiction works on sports.
