## Biography

Philip Steadman is a British architectural researcher and author. He studied architecture at the University of Cambridge and has held research and teaching positions at Cambridge, the Open University and University College London, where he is Principal Research Fellow in the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources.

Steadman is the author of *Vermeer’s Camera* (2001), which examines the painter’s possible use of optical devices. He appears as himself in the documentary *Tim’s Vermeer* (2013), discussing these ideas with Tim Jenison and David Hockney. He has also contributed to television programmes on art and served as scientific adviser on the 1984 BBC film *Threads*.
