## Biography

Philippe Agostini (1910–2001) was a French cinematographer, director and screenwriter. Born in Paris, he helped found the École Louis-Lumière and began his career as an assistant to cinematographers Georges Périnal and Armand Thirard before working as director of photography from the late 1930s.

His cinematography credits include *Daybreak* (1939), *Angels of Sin* (1943), *Les Dames du bois de Boulogne* (1945), *Gates of the Night* (1946), *Le Plaisir* (1952), *Rififi* (1955) and *The Silent World* (1956). He also directed films, several with religious subjects, and was married to actress Odette Joyeux.
