## Biography

Phyllis Boyens (née Workman) was an American actress and folk singer. Born in Lobata, West Virginia, she was the daughter of coal miner and folk singer Nimrod Workman. She appeared with her father in the 1976 documentary *Harlan County, USA*.

Boyens played 'Clary' Webb, the mother of Loretta Lynn, in the 1980 biographical film *Coal Miner's Daughter*. She later appeared as Mrs Hull in the 1984 television film *The Dollmaker*. Her song 'Mean Papa Blues' featured on the soundtrack to *Guncrazy* (1992). She died in 2009.
