## Biography

Pierre Lhomme was a French cinematographer. Born in Boulogne-Billancourt in 1930, he trained at the École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière and began working in film in the early 1950s.

He collaborated with directors of the French New Wave and later with Jean-Pierre Melville on *Army of Shadows* (1969) and Jean Eustache on *The Mother and the Whore* (1973). He co-directed the documentary *Le Joli Mai* (1963) with Chris Marker. Lhomme shot several films for Jean-Paul Rappeneau, including *Cyrano de Bergerac* (1990), for which he received a César Award for Best Cinematography, and worked repeatedly with James Ivory and Ismail Merchant on titles such as *Maurice* (1987) and *Le Divorce* (2003).

He won a second César for *Camille Claudel* (1988) and received a BAFTA Award for *Cyrano de Bergerac*. Lhomme died in Arles in 2019.
