## Biography

Poul Schierbeck (1888–1949) was a Danish composer and organist. He studied composition with Carl Nielsen and Thomas Laub, and from 1931 taught composition and instrumentation at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. He served as organist at Skovshoved Church from 1916 until his death.

Schierbeck composed the score for Carl Theodor Dreyer's *Day of Wrath* (1943) and collaborated with the director on several short films. His music was used posthumously in Dreyer's *Ordet* (1955), with arrangements by Emil Reesen and Schierbeck's widow, the opera singer Sylvia Schierbeck. He also wrote numerous songs, cantatas and orchestral works, including the popular song 'I Danmark er jeg født'.
