Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, she worked as a model and was named Miss Miami Beach in 1935 before signing with Universal Studios. She appeared in numerous films and serials between 1935 and 1941, most notably as Princess Aura in the 1936 Flash Gordon serial. Her other credits include a credited role as Mabel in Test Pilot (1938) and an uncredited part in The Women (1939). She was married to actor Alan Curtis from 1937 to 1940 and served in the Women's Army Corps during the Second World War. Lawson later managed a stationery shop in Los Angeles.
