## Biography

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the Romantic period. He studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and became the first Russian composer to achieve lasting international recognition.

His best-known works include the ballets *The Nutcracker* (1892) and *Sleeping Beauty* (1890), as well as the *1812 Overture* and several symphonies. Tchaikovsky's music featured in the Walt Disney film *Fantasia* (1940), with selections from *The Nutcracker Suite* forming one of the animated segments.
