## Biography

R. E. Dearing (1893–1968) was an English film editor, usually credited as R. E. Dearing or Robert E. Dearing. Born Robert Dearing in Combs, Suffolk, he died in February 1968 in Hillingdon, Middlesex.

He worked extensively for Gainsborough Pictures, editing numerous comedies including several featuring Will Hay. Dearing edited Alfred Hitchcock's *The Lady Vanishes* (1938), Carol Reed's *Night Train to Munich* (1940) and *The Man in Grey* (1943). He was known affectionately as "Pop" Dearing.

Later in his career he moved into production management and assistant roles on films including *Night and the City* (1950).
