R. Eric Thomas is an American television writer, playwright and author. He has written episodes of the series *Better Things* (2016) and *Dickinson* (2019).

Thomas grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and studied playwriting at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County after attending Columbia University. His stage work includes the plays *Mrs. Harrison* and *Safe Space*; he has received the Barrymore Award for Best New Play, the Dramatists Guild Lanford Wilson Award and a Lambda Literary Award.

He is the author of the essay collections *Here For It: Or, How to Save Your Soul in America* (2020) and *Congratulations, the Best Is Over!* (2023), the young adult novel *Kings of B'more* (2022) and, with Helena Andrews-Dyer, the biography *Reclaiming Her Time: The Power of Maxine Waters*.
