## Biography

Raf Vallone (17 February 1916 – 31 October 2002) was an Italian actor. Born in Tropea, Calabria, he studied law and philosophy at the University of Turin before working as a journalist and playing professional football for Torino. He made his film debut in *We the Living* (1942) and gained prominence with his role in the neorealist film *Bitter Rice* (1949).

Vallone appeared in numerous international productions, including *Two Women* (1960), *El Cid* (1961), *The Italian Job* (1969) and *Lion of the Desert* (1981). He played Cardinal Lamberto in *The Godfather Part III* (1990). On stage he was noted for performances in works by Arthur Miller, notably *A View from the Bridge* (1962 film adaptation).

He was married to actress Elena Varzi from 1952 until his death in Rome.
