## Biography

Raija Talvio is a Finnish film editor, screenwriter and academic. She was born on 30 April 1959 in Helsinki. She began her career as an assistant editor on Aki Kaurismäki’s *Crime and Punishment* (1983) and subsequently edited all of his feature films of the 1980s, including *Shadows in Paradise* (1986), *Hamlet Goes Business* (1987), *Ariel* (1988) and *Leningrad Cowboys Go America* (1989). She has also edited several films directed by Anssi Mänttäri.

Talvio has written screenplays for Taru Mäkelä’s *Pikkusisar* (1999), for which she and the director received the 2000 Suomi-palkinto, and *Mieletön elokuu* (2013). She holds a Doctor of Arts degree from Aalto University (2015) and has been professor of film and television screenwriting at the university since 2019.
