## Biography

Ralf D. Bode (also credited as Ralf Bode) was a German-born American cinematographer. Born in Berlin, he moved to the United States in 1954 and graduated from the University of Vermont. He served as a photographer in the US Army Signal Corps, briefly worked as an actor, and studied directing at the Yale School of Drama before entering cinematography.

Bode's feature credits include *Saturday Night Fever* (1977), *Coal Miner's Daughter* (1980, Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography), *Dressed to Kill* (1980), *Gorky Park* (1983), *The Accused* (1988), *Uncle Buck* (1989) and *Don Juan DeMarco* (1994). He shot the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps sequence in *Rocky* (1976) as second-unit cinematographer. He received Emmy nominations for the television films *Gypsy* (1993) and *Annie* (1999). Bode was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and taught at the Los Angeles Film School.
