## Biography

Randy Thom is an American sound designer and the director of sound design at Skywalker Sound. Born David Randall Thom on 21 August 1951 in Shreveport, Louisiana, he began his career in radio before moving into film sound.

Thom entered the industry after contacting Walter Murch and visiting a remix session for *American Graffiti*. He worked on *Apocalypse Now* (1979) and went on to contribute sound design, editing and mixing to numerous films, including *Return of the Jedi* (1983), *Forrest Gump* (1994), *The Incredibles* (2004), *Ratatouille* (2007) and *The Revenant* (2015). He also voiced the character Sandy in *The Croods* (2013).

Thom has received two Academy Awards for his sound work, on *The Right Stuff* (1983) and *The Incredibles* (2004).
