## Biography

Ray Austin (5 December 1932 – 17 May 2023) was a British television and film director, writer, producer and former stunt performer and actor. Born in London, he began his career as a stunt performer on films including *North by Northwest* (1959) and *Spartacus* (1960). He served as stunt coordinator on 50 episodes of *The Avengers* (1965–1967) before directing two episodes of the series in 1968.

Austin directed episodes of numerous series including *The Saint* (1968), *Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)* (1969–1970), *Space: 1999* (1975–1976), *The New Avengers* (1976–1977) and *Zorro* (1989–1992, 50 of 88 episodes). He also directed made-for-television films such as *The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.* (1983) and worked extensively in the United States on shows including *Wonder Woman*, *Airwolf*, *Magnum, P.I.* and *JAG*.
