## Biography

Ray Lovejoy (18 February 1939 – 18 October 2001) was a British film editor. He began as an assistant to editor Anne V. Coates on films including *Lawrence of Arabia* (1962), then assisted Anthony Harvey on *Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb* (1964). Kubrick promoted him to editor on *2001: A Space Odyssey* (1968); the two later collaborated on *The Shining* (1980).

Lovejoy edited around thirty films. He had a long collaboration with director Peter Yates across six pictures, among them *Krull* (1983) and *The Dresser* (1983). His other credits include *Aliens* (1986), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing, *Batman* (1989) and *Lost in Space* (1998).
