## Biography

Reginald Beck (1902–1992) was a British film editor. Born in St Petersburg, Russia, his family emigrated to Britain in 1915. He began working in the industry in 1927 as a camera assistant at Gainsborough Pictures and became an editor in the 1930s.

Beck edited Laurence Olivier’s *Henry V* (1944), for which the credits read “Produced and directed by Laurence Olivier in close collaboration with the editor Reginald Beck”. He also served as associate producer on Olivier’s *Hamlet* (1948). From 1958 he collaborated extensively with Joseph Losey, editing sixteen of the director’s films including *The Go-Between* (1971), *Accident* (1967) and *Don Giovanni* (1979), for which he received the César Award for Best Editing. His other credits include *Modesty Blaise* (1966) and *Robbery* (1967). He was the brother of Violet Helen Beck Cushing, wife of actor Peter Cushing.
