## Biography

Reginald Connelly was an English songwriter, composer and music publisher. Born Reginald John Connelly on 22 October 1895 in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, he formed a long-running partnership with James "Jimmy" Campbell. Working mainly as lyricists, often under the pseudonym Irving King, the pair wrote several enduring popular standards including "Show Me the Way to Go Home" (1925), "If I Had You" (1928) and "Goodnight, Sweetheart" (1931). They also established the publishing firm Campbell Connelly.

Connelly composed the musical score for Alfred Hitchcock's *Blackmail* (1929), the director's first sound feature. He later supplied lyrics for the musical numbers in *Temptation* (1934) and *Sunshine Ahead* (1936). Connelly died on 23 September 1963 in Poole, Dorset.
