## Biography

Renée Adorée was a French actress who appeared in Hollywood silent films during the 1920s. Born Jeanne de la Fonte in Lille, France, she began performing as a child in the circus with her parents and later worked as a dancer with the Folies-Bergère before moving to the United States.

She made her American film debut in *The Strongest* (1920) and achieved stardom with her role as Melisande opposite John Gilbert in *The Big Parade* (1925). Adorée appeared in nine films with Gilbert and others including *Mr. Wu* (1927) with Lon Chaney. Her career ended after she contracted tuberculosis in 1930; she died in 1933.
