## Biography

Rex Thompson is an American actor. Born on 14 December 1942 in New York City, he began his career as a child performer on Broadway, making his debut in the musical *Alive and Kicking* (1950) and later serving as understudy for the role of Louis Leonowens in the original stage production of *The King and I* (1951).

He is best known for portraying Louis Leonowens in the 1956 film adaptation of *The King and I*, opposite Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner. Other film credits include *Young Bess* (1953), in which he played Prince Edward opposite Kerr, *The Eddy Duchin Story* (1956) and *All Mine to Give* (1957). He also appeared in television series such as *The Doctors* and *The Fugitive*, and returned to Broadway in several plays during the 1950s and 1970s.
